Mantis Kung Fu Academy: Grades, Sashes & Weapons

At Mantis Kung Fu Academy (MKFA), the grading patch is worn with pride by practitioners, featuring the iconic Mantis logo. The color of the patch signifies the progression and level attained within the MKFA system.

As students continue their training and development, they transition from colored patches to colored sashes, beginning at the Blue level and advancing all the way through to Master level.

Throughout this journey, students are closely monitored to ensure they are meeting their goals and maintaining a high standard of fundamental techniques. This includes demonstrating an understanding of the techniques and consistently upholding the integrity of Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu throughout the grading system.

Sifu and his instructors are dedicated to teaching, training, and evolving the art, ensuring that each student’s personal development continues as they progress through the grades. This commitment helps maintain the strength and purity of the Southern Praying Mantis style, fostering a healthy and thriving academy.

WEAPONS & EQUIPMENT

At MANTIS KUNG FU ACADEMY – HOME OF CHOW GAR TONGLONG, traditional martial art weaponry plays a major role in combining the vital elements throughout the grading system.
Weapons are trained for various reasons not only giving you the opportunity to further your knowledge in the art of MANTIS KUNG FU but as well as enhancing joint flexibility, hanging of the shoulder (Dil Sok), lightness of the feet, correct posture, whipping and catching of the hand, gripping of the ma (stance), dealing with weight/balance ratios and to better understand body movements.

When training various weaponry and forms, you can then obtain the understanding required to generate energy to the focus point of the weapon in hand. Connecting your body and mind is a key element to your Kun-Soot-Jing-Hou. Training without weapons is not recommended at MANTIS KUNG FU ACADEMY, as the hand will never be able to produce and use the pure energy/Ging (shock power) output that SOUTHERN PRAYING MANTIS KUNG FU is renowned for.

Our weapons are; White Willow Staff, Tridents, Walking Stick, Short Stick, Butterfly Knives, Tai Chi Fan, Tai Chi Sword and Broad Sword, all having individual forms that produce different energies, direction of movement and striking techniques. Some of our weapons have numerous forms as well as weapon on weapon fighting. Trained applications for disabling an opponent with a weapon is learnt at MANTIS KUNG FU ACADEMY with the hand techniques and skills that you have developed throughout the grading system.
